Fluorometer Technical Background

Our nano series Micro-Spectrophotometers measure the concentration and purity of the sample by measuring the absorbance of the whole ingredient (such as DNA, RNA, oligos, etc.) at 260nm, which may occasionally lead to inaccurate readings.

In contrast, the fluorometer measures the fluorescence intensity of the fluorescent reagent that specifically combines with the target molecule to read the exact concentration of the sample. Generally, the reading is lower than Nano series products but significantly more accurate.

The sensitivity of the Nano series products is above 5ng/μl, whereas the fluorometer achieves 0.5pg/μl in measuring DNA concentration. Reading lower and highly accurate concentrations of the sample is crucial for most applications. Using the Fluo-100 fluorometer with the quantitation kit allows rapid, sensitive, and accurate sample concentration measurement.
